How long does it take for camellia buds to bloom?

How long does it take for camellia buds to bloom?

1. How long does it take to bloom?

There are many varieties of camellia, and the time from bud to bloom is not certain. Most varieties have buds in May and do not bloom until the following spring. Those that bloom earlier, such as autumn peony and joey, usually bloom in early October.

2. How to promote flowering

1. Increase the temperature: The suitable temperature for camellia to bloom is between 10-20℃. If the temperature is lower or higher than this, it will not bloom easily. Therefore, it is necessary to raise the temperature a little for flowers that bloom in spring.

2. Increase humidity: Camellia has high requirements for air humidity. It is advisable to water thoroughly when the soil is slightly dry. You can also use a watering can to spray a small amount of water on the leaves, or sprinkle water on the ground to increase the humidity. When spraying water, be careful not to spray it on the flower buds, otherwise it will cause mildew.

3. Appropriate fertilization: Camellia itself is not suitable for concentrated fertilizers. It is better to use some dilute organic fertilizers. Do not apply compound fertilizer with too high nitrogen content, otherwise it will hinder flowering. You can apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and alum fertilizer water to make the flowers larger and brighter.

4. Timely bud thinning: Camellia bud thinning should be done according to the size of the plant. Otherwise, the nutrients will not be evenly distributed among the flower buds and none of them will bloom. Generally, flowers within 3 years old do not retain buds. If they do, only one can be kept on each branch, and not on every branch. Buds must be picked selectively. For flowers that are more than 5 years old, two buds can remain on each branch.
