Cultivation methods and precautions of Kalanchoe

Cultivation methods and precautions of Kalanchoe

1. Adequate light

Kalanchoe loves light very much. In an environment with plenty of sunlight, it can grow well, have thick leaves and bloom profusely. If the Kalanchoe lacks light, its branches will become slender, its leaves will become thinner and smaller, the plant will grow taller, it will bloom poorly, its flower color will become dull, and even large pieces of leaves will fall off. The light intensity is high in the hot summer, and the sun burns the leaves, causing them to turn yellow and fall off, so you should pay attention to shade.

2. Watering and fertilizing

Kalanchoe is relatively drought-resistant. During the growing season, you can water it according to the principle of watering when the soil is dry and watering when the soil is wet to keep the soil moist. Apply basal fertilizer to the Kalanchoe when potting. Apply thin compound liquid fertilizer every 15-20 days during the peak growing season. After the flower buds are formed in November, apply 1-2 times of 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution to replenish nutrients, promote vigorous growth, and bright flowering.

3. Soil requirements

Kalanchoe cannot be grown in heavy clay soil, as this will cause root rot and poor growth. Kalanchoe can be grown in loose, breathable, well-drained fertile soil. The soil can be mixed with 4 parts of leaf mold, 4 parts of garden soil, 2 parts of river sand, and a small amount of bone meal, which is beneficial to the development of the root system.

4. Suitable temperature

The suitable temperature for the growth of Kalanchoe is 20-25℃. In summer, when the temperature exceeds 32℃, ventilation and cooling are needed. In winter, it should be moved into a warm room to keep warm over the winter.

5. Notes

In the early stage of the vigorous growth of Kalanchoe, it is necessary to pinch off the top, prune the branches and leaves during the growth period, and remove the remaining flowers after the flowers fade, which can be beneficial to the later growth of Kalanchoe.
