How to prune Kalanchoe

How to prune Kalanchoe

1. Pinching and topping

During the growth period of Kalanchoe, attention should be paid to pinching and topping to encourage more branches to sprout on the plant. The pinching and topping of Kalanchoe should be done in spring in April. When the seedlings grow to 4 cm, the small buds at the top should be cut off to control the apical dominance, limit the growth of Kalanchoe, promote the growth of branches on both sides of the plant, and make the whole plant shape more beautiful.

2. Cross pruning

Kalanchoe also needs to be pruned in a cross-shaped pattern. Cutting off the weak, old, diseased and dead branches on the plant can reduce the consumption of nutrients and ensure the nutrients in the body of the Kalanchoe, thereby maintaining normal growth.

3. Thinning and shaping

The Kalanchoe also needs to be pruned and shaped. First, remove the dense branches and shorten the long branches. The shape also needs to be determined. Through pruning, the shape of the Kalanchoe will be more natural and beautiful. In the later stage, the Kalanchoe needs to be pruned as appropriate to maintain its beautiful shape.

4. Pruning after flowering

After the Kalanchoe blooms, it is necessary to cut off the withered flowers in time, together with the branches below the flowers, to reduce the consumption of nutrients, thereby accumulating nutrients and promoting the next flowering.

5. Notes

Before pruning Kalanchoe, you must prepare appropriate tools, such as sharp scissors, and disinfect them in advance. After pruning the Kalanchoe, take good care of the wound, avoid splashing water on the wound, and place it in a well-ventilated and diffused light location to promote wound healing.
