How to Propagate Aloe Vera

How to Propagate Aloe Vera

1. Division propagation

Choose a mother plant that is in good growth condition, preferably a two-year-old one. The mother plant can grow 10-15 tillers a year. When more than three small roots grow under these tillers, small leaves also grow on them. You can separate them from above and plant them in loam. With basic care and appropriate conditions, they will grow well.

2. Leaf cuttings

This method is actually not often used in life because it has obvious disadvantages and its reproduction and growth rate is slow. You can make a small cut at the base of the leaf and slowly tear it off. Place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry, then insert it into the sterilized substrate. Ensure good maintenance conditions, avoid exposure to strong sunlight, and maintain the temperature at 15 degrees Celsius. It will take about a month to take root.

3. Cutting propagation

First, prepare a well-drained substrate and sterilize it for later use. When the plant grows taller, you can cut it off 10-12cm from the stem and place it in a cool environment to dry in the sun to promote healing and drying of the cut. If it is not dried thoroughly, it will cause rot when inserted. Then insert it into the prepared substrate, maintain a semi-shaded environment and keep it moist.
