How to Identify Taiwan Podocarpus

1. Appearance

Podocarpus is a tree of the genus Taiwania. Its diameter at breast height is about 60 cm and its bark is light gray.

2. Blades

The leaves of Taiwan Podocarpus are linear, linear-lanceolate or lanceolate, leathery, about 5-9 cm long and 8-12 mm wide. The leaves are relatively straight and slightly curved, with slightly thinner edges, gradually narrowing at the top, with sharp or blunt tips, and a narrow base. The upper side is light green, and the lower side is light green with white powder. The petiole is short, about 5 mm.

3. Seeds

The seeds of Podocarpus formosanus are solitary in the leaf axils, and are elliptical-ovate or oval in shape, with a narrow and pointed tip, about 8 mm in diameter and 1-2 cm long. The color is green and the surface is covered with white powder.
