How long does the flowering period of Amaryllis last?

How long does the flowering period of Amaryllis last?

1. Flowering period

Normally, a single amaryllis plant can bloom twice a year. Once in summer and once in winter. The flowering period is about ten days. If the environmental conditions are suitable for its growth habits, the flowering period can be extended to 15 days, and it can bloom every year.

2. Maintenance during flowering period

1. Light and temperature: Amaryllis prefers warm, humid and cool climate and cannot tolerate heat. During the flowering period, six hours of diffuse light should be ensured every day. If it is grown outdoors, it should be properly shaded when the sun is strong at noon. When it blooms in winter, place it in a warmer place and adjust the temperature to between 18 and 25 degrees. Avoid placing it in cold places such as doorways and windows to prevent frostbite. If you have underfloor heating at home, place it in a high place to prevent the plants from being burned by the underfloor heating.

2. Watering: During its flowering period, you need to adjust the frequency of watering appropriately to ensure that the soil is moist without water accumulation. When watering, you can touch the soil while watering. If the soil is all moist but there are no lumps, it means that the water is well applied.

3. Fertilization: Before the peak flowering period, you can apply a small amount of thin fertilizer rich in phosphorus to promote flowering.

3. Post-flowering management

After the amaryllis flowers fade, the pedicels should be cut off to concentrate the nutrients. This is beneficial for the growth of the bulbs. In addition, it should be fertilized once every twenty days or so. This will promote the growth of the bulb and encourage it to produce new bulbs.
