Planting and Management Techniques of Corydalis yanhusuo

Planting and Management Techniques of Corydalis yanhusuo

As an important Chinese medicinal material , Yuanhu has the characteristics of short production cycle, simple technical requirements and high efficiency. Yuanhu likes light, so it should be planted in a sunny place with plenty of sunlight to ensure sufficient light. Let’s learn about the planting and management techniques of Yuanhu.

1. Site selection and land preparation

Yuanhu is suitable for planting in neutral or slightly acidic, well-permeable, loose and fertile sandy loam. Avoid clay soil, sandy land, waterlogged, compacted, and barren areas. Plow the land, break up the soil, and level it into ridges with a width of 100-120cm, a height of 20-25cm, and a ditch width of 30cm to ensure smooth drainage.

2. Seed selection

Select Yuanhu that is growing well, strong, has few flowers, has a neat and compact plant shape, and is disease-free as seedlings. Select tubers of Corydalis ternata with a diameter of 1.2-2.0 cm. They should be plump, free of disease and insect spots, scars, and have a depression on the top.

3. Planting seeds

Yuanhu is propagated by tubers, and the planting time is between the Autumnal Equinox and the Cold Dew, that is, from late September to early to mid-October. The planting density should be 45-50kg per 667㎡. Soak the seeds in 500 times diluted 40% carbendazim for 4 hours before sowing.

4. Coverage

After planting, you can cover the crops with straw to retain moisture, inhibit weed growth and protect the environment.

5. Field management

Intertillage and weeding: Combined with winter fertilizer application, pay attention to shallow tillage to avoid damaging the root system.

Drainage and irrigation: Drain and irrigate in time according to the soil moisture content. Water in the evening during drought, and control the time to about 10 hours.

Scientific fertilization: Apply organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer as base fertilizer before land preparation, and apply winter fertilizer and topdressing in combination with intertillage.

6. Integrated pest control

Adopt agricultural and physical control as the main approach and reduce the use of chemical pesticides . Preventive measures include choosing high-altitude areas, breathable and loose fields, not cropping continuously, and high ridges for drainage. Prevention and control measures include timely application of pesticides, use of sprays such as mancozeb and carbendazim for prevention, and targeted treatments for downy mildew, sclerotinia, rust, etc.

7. Harvest

In early May, choose a sunny day to harvest after the aboveground parts of the Yuanhu plants wither. Remove weeds and dead plants, and carefully dig out tubers to avoid missing any. Spread out the fruits to dry immediately after harvest, avoiding direct sunlight or excessive stacking to prevent heat and mildew.

The above is an introduction to the key points of cultivation techniques of the Chinese medicinal plant Yuanhu. If you are considering planting Yuanhu, you still have to consider the actual environmental conditions.
