Taboos for planting lemon trees in pots at home

Taboos for planting lemon trees in pots at home

1. Lighting

Potted lemon trees prefer plenty of sunlight, so when caring for them, they must be placed in the courtyard or balcony or other places with sufficient light. If there is insufficient light, the lemon tree will grow too tall and only grow leaves but no flowers, which will seriously affect the yield of lemons. However, when the sun is strong in summer, appropriate shading must be carried out to prevent sunburn on the leaves.

2. Placement

There are some thorns on the branches of the lemon tree, so when caring for it, be sure to place the lemon tree in a safe place. If children or pets touch it, they will be stabbed. In addition, the juice in the leaves of the lemon tree is poisonous and cannot be eaten casually. If it is accidentally eaten by children, poisoning may occur, usually diarrhea and vomiting, which will seriously endanger the child's body.

3. Temperature

The suitable growth temperature for lemon trees is 15~25℃. Lemon trees are neither cold-resistant nor heat-resistant, so they must be moved back indoors in winter, or plastic bags and quilts must be used to wrap the plants for insulation, otherwise the lemon trees will suffer frost damage. When the weather is hot in summer, be sure to place the lemon tree in a cool place, otherwise the lemon tree will be sunburned. You can also spray a certain amount of water on the leaves of the lemon tree or in the surrounding air to cool it down.

4. Pruning

Lemon trees have many branches, so they need to be pruned in a timely manner, otherwise it will affect the light of other branches and provide better ventilation. Old and diseased branches can also be pruned to reduce nutrient consumption and affect lemon production. Pruning is generally done in spring and autumn, and it is best to do it after rain, which can speed up wound healing.
