How to make freesia bloom early

How to make freesia bloom early

Bulb disinfection

In early summer, the bulbs enter a dormant period. After all the above-ground parts have withered, the bulbs can be dug out. Soak in 2000 times diluted Benomyl for 30 minutes, disinfect, place in a cool place to dry, and then store at 10 ℃.

High temperature treatment

In summer, when the temperature is high, freesia will enter a dormant period. If you want it to bloom early, place the bulbs in a high temperature environment to break their dormancy period. Can be released smoke or assisted with ethylene.

Deep burial of sawdust

When sowing in spring, use moist sawdust as the medium, mix it with a small amount of soil, bury the bulbs deeply in it, and spray water frequently to keep the sawdust moist. During the vernalization process, its rooting and germination are promoted, and it will bloom in the second year. It does not require excessive treatment and will bloom naturally earlier.

Controlling temperature

Controlling temperature is the most direct, but also the most delicate method. The bulb refrigeration process is also the process of flower bud differentiation. Therefore, the refrigeration time and temperature must be strictly controlled.

If you want it to bloom in November , you need to refrigerate it at 10 ℃ for 40 to 50 days and plant it in mid-to-late September . If you want it to bloom in December , you need to refrigerate it for 30 to 40 days. If you want it to bloom on New Year's Day, you only need to refrigerate it for 30 days and plant it in early November . After planting, the temperature can be controlled at 15 ℃ to bloom. In fact, you can see that the shorter the storage days, the later the flowering time, but the range of cold storage is 30 to 50 days. Beyond this range, the growth of the plant will be inhibited, and the flowers will be less or even not bloom.
