The difference between pampas grass and miscanthus

The difference between pampas grass and miscanthus

1. Differences in stems

The stems of cattail reed are very narrow, about 1 meter long and 2 centimeters wide, drooping, with fine serrations on the edges, gray-green in color, and covered with short hairs. The stems of Miscanthus are much taller than the former, up to 2 meters high, with shallow grooves and dense short soft hairs.

2. The difference between flowers

Pampas grass has a panicle inflorescence, about 50-100 cm long, and its color ranges from silvery white to pink. The female inflorescence is larger, while the male inflorescence is narrower. Miscanthus has a whorl inflorescence that grows in long spike-like inflorescences on the top of the main stem and side branches. The bracts are linear, the calyx is bell-shaped, the corolla is lavender in color, about 1.3 cm long, glabrous on the outside, and covered with sparse soft hairs on the inside.
