The difference between Aralia ovata and Erythrina

The difference between Aralia ovata and Erythrina

1. Tree shape difference

Aralia dasyphylla is a shrub or small tree, generally between 3-5m in height. The Erythrina is a tall tree that can reach a height of 20m. So, compared with the two, the shorter one is the dragon tooth flower.

2. The difference between leaves

Both have pinnate compound leaves, but the leaflets of Aralia dasyphylla are rhombus-ovate, 4-10cm long and 2.5-7cm wide, while the leaflets of Erythrina are broadly ovate or rhombus-ovate, with a length and width of 15-30cm. Therefore, the leaflets of Aralia dasyphylla are smaller than those of Erythrina dasyphylla. In addition, the petioles of Erythrina usually have no thorns, while the petioles of Aralia dasyphylla sometimes have small thorns.

3. The difference between flowers

The flowers of Aralia dasyphylla are dark red with short pedicels, and the inflorescence can reach a length of more than 30 cm, while the flowers of Erythrina affine are red, and the inflorescence is 10-16 cm long. Therefore, compared with the two, the one with longer inflorescence is the dragon tooth flower.
