How long is the growth cycle of a grapevine?

Introduction to Grapevine Growth

Grapevines are adaptable to a wide range of environments, but loam and fine sandy loam are best. They should be planted in fertile soil that is well-ventilated, sunny and well-drained.

Grape vines are widely distributed in the world, and the main producing areas in China are Anhui, Xinjiang, Shandong, Hebei, Liaoning, Henan and other places.

Grapevine growth cycle

Grape vines prefer warm and humid environments, have high requirements for water, and must have a certain intensity of light during their growth period. However, they are prone to withering if the light is too strong. You can use bagging or pruning branches and leaves to retain leaves that can cover the fruit.

With proper management, grape vines can bear fruit within 2-3 years of planting.

Grapevine growth rate

Grapevines are usually planted in spring. They will sprout around March, bloom around May, and small yellow buds will appear. They will bear fruit in July and mature in mid-August.

Grapevines grow quickly.

Grapevine growth cycle management

The yield of grape trees still depends on the variety and planting techniques. For trellis cultivation, the yield per mu is about 2,500 kilograms, and for greenhouse cultivation, a single plant can reach about 50 kilograms.

Temperature management: Grapevines prefer a warm environment and are not resistant to low temperatures. The minimum temperature required for growth is about 12 to 15 degrees, the minimum ground temperature is about 10 to 13 degrees, the optimum temperature for flowering is about 20 degrees, and the optimum temperature for fruit expansion is 20-30 degrees.

Fertilization management: In the early stage of planting grape vines, sufficient base fertilizer can be applied. Organic and inorganic fertilizers need to be applied during the growth period. During the fruit expansion period, fruit-enhancing fertilizer should be applied once every 20 days or so. Generally, 2-3 times a year are needed. Foliar fertilizer can also be sprayed before flowering and during the young fruit stage.
