The difference between red magnolia and purple magnolia

The difference between red magnolia and purple magnolia

1. Are they a plant?

In fact, what we usually call "red magnolia" and "purple magnolia" are the same plant. If you look at their pictures, you will find that no matter what kind of plant it is, their colors are the same and there is no obvious difference. Indeed, there is no essential difference between them. If we must say the difference between them, it is just that they are called differently.

2. Why are the titles different?

We mentioned above that they are actually the same plant, but they are called differently. Why is that? It turns out that the reason why people sometimes call it "red magnolia" and sometimes call it "purple magnolia" is because they are comparing to different objects. Specifically, no matter which plant it is, their color is purple-red. So, when comparing it with other varieties such as "white magnolia" and "yellow magnolia", we generally call it "red magnolia". This is because, in terms of color contrast, the contrast between red, white and yellow is more obvious. However, considering that its flower color is purple-red, we are accustomed to calling it "purple magnolia" when not comparing it with other varieties. It is because of this that they are called differently.

3. Their Origin

There is no doubt that their origin is the same. Specifically, they are all cultivated by using "white magnolia" as the rootstock and "purple/red magnolia" buds as the joints. They are different from other varieties. They bloom purple-red flowers, and they bloom first and then grow leaves. In addition, they can bloom twice a year.
