Seed propagation of Digitalis

Seed propagation of Digitalis

Preparation for sowing and propagation of Digitalis

When it comes to the preparation work, it is nothing more than preparing seeds, seedbeds and substrates.

After the fruit matures every year, the seeds need to be harvested, threshed and stored. Before sowing, the seeds should be soaked in warm water, dried and placed in a dark place to germinate.

The next step is to choose a suitable seedbed (nursery ground). Whether you choose to sow in the open air or in a seedling pot, you need to choose a suitable substrate. Choose soil that is well-ventilated and well-drained, and apply some base fertilizer. Well-rotted farmyard manure is a good choice.

Seed propagation of Digitalis

The sowing propagation of Digitalis can be done by direct seeding or seedling transplanting. The main difference between direct seeding and seedling transplanting is that direct seeding is less labor-intensive, while seedling transplanting requires transplanting the seedlings when they have grown 3 to 5 leaves.

For the direct seeding method, the germinated seeds should be evenly sown on the seedbed at an appropriate plant spacing and covered with a layer of soil. After sowing, you need to pay attention to keep the soil moist, water it frequently (do not flood it), and you can also cover it with straw to keep it moist. Generally, teeth will start to come out in about 10 days.

The seedling transplanting method is to mix the germinated seeds with a certain proportion of fine soil or fine sand, and sprinkle them directly on the seedbed. Then cover them with a layer of fine soil, spray water to keep them moist, and wait for them to germinate. When the digitalis seedlings gradually grow and have 6 to 7 leaves, choose relatively cool weather in March for transplanting and planting.

When digitalis begins to enter the growth period, normal maintenance is sufficient.
