The difference between golden osmanthus and silver osmanthus

The difference between golden osmanthus and silver osmanthus

1. Golden Osmanthus

Its flowers are very golden, have a very strong fragrance, and its leaves are relatively thick. It can remain green all year round, is relatively small in size, and is a tree. The color of its branches is light brown, and the leaves are generally opposite, with shapes tending to be long oval or relatively broad lanceolate. Both ends are relatively pointed, the upper leaf margins are serrated, the flowers grow in the leaf axils, and are umbrella-shaped inflorescences. The pedicels are relatively small, and the flowers are light yellow in color at the beginning. Later it turns golden and blooms in September.

2. Silver Osmanthus

The color of its flowers is much lighter than the former, slightly yellow and more white, the smell is not very strong, and the leaves are thinner than the former. It is also a small tree that remains green all year round, with very dense branches and leaves. There are two types of trees: female and male. The leaves are oval in shape, growing opposite each other, with the upper part shorter and slightly pointed, and dark green in color. The flowers are gathered into an umbrella shape, the corolla is spread out, and each petal is oval in shape. It has a relatively light fragrance and can be used to make tea. It also blooms in September.

3. Difference

1. For a long time, osmanthus was in a state of not blooming. The leaves of both are relatively narrow and long, the former is longer, and have very obvious tips. The former is taller than the latter.

2. The leaves of the former are thicker than those of the latter. The leaves of the former are slightly wider and a little curled, while the leaves of the latter are more oblong, and the edges of the leaves are like wavy lines.

3. The buds grown by the former are more upright and purple-red in color, and turn green when they grow up. The latter's new shoots are copper-colored, then slowly turn green, and it grows more new branches.
