Do Gardenia leaves fall off in winter?

Do Gardenia leaves fall off in winter?

1. Habits

Although it is an evergreen shrub, the flowers need to go dormant in winter. During the dormant period, it doesn’t matter if the leaves are gone because it has basically stopped growing.

However, in order to grow better in the future, jasmine still needs to be well cared for in winter. If the temperature at home is too high, it is recommended to place the jasmine in a relatively cold room. 6-10 degrees is most suitable. If it exceeds 12 degrees, it is a bit high and not conducive to the jasmine's wintering.

The watering frequency should not be too many. Because the temperature is low, excessive watering can easily cause frostbite to the plants. So in general, depending on the humidity at home, water the plants only when you see that the soil in the pot is dry. The frequency is about once every half a month to a month.

Similarly, during the winter, the sunlight should not be too strong. It is usually placed in a place at home where it can get sunlight, but not in direct sunlight to prevent diseases of the flowers caused by the sunlight.

Therefore, the habits of gardenia are relatively easy to grasp. As long as it is not too cold or too hot, there is not too much water but not no water at all, and there is light but not direct sunlight, if you do these, gardenia can survive the winter safely.

2. Is it normal for yellow and withered leaves?

Generally speaking, gardenias do not shed their leaves, but if yellow or dead leaves appear, you should pay attention. It may be due to too little water causing dryness, or too much water causing oxygen deprivation of the roots. In addition, you also need to consider whether the fertilizer you are using is correct. Sometimes fertilizer is also the cause of yellow or withered leaves.

However, you also need to understand whether the ventilation is poor. In this case, you can observe it by carefully observing the leaves. The leaves are yellow and transparent, and they are easily broken when touched with your fingers. At this time, you should increase ventilation and light to prevent affecting the growth of the entire plant. Be sure to pay attention to distinguish!

3. How to rejuvenate

It’s spring of the second year. How can we make gardenia end its winter dormancy? Then move them outdoors, don't prune them too much to prevent damage, and they will bloom in April and May. After flowering, you can continue to cultivate it as usual.
