The breeding methods and precautions of Brazilian iron

The Brazilian ironwood is a tropical plant with a beautiful shape, elegant and unique leaves, and is very ornamental. Since the Brazilian iron plant does not have high requirements for light, it can keep its buds tender and leaves green, making it particularly suitable for potted viewing. Below, the editor will introduce the breeding methods and precautions of Brazilian iron, let’s take a look.

1. Soil

Brazilian iron likes fertile, loose, well-breeding and well-drained sandy soil. Garden soil, leaf mold, peat soil and river sand can be mixed in a ratio of 3:2:2:3 to make the soil rich in humus, high in nutritional value, and conducive to plant growth. When planting, it is necessary to prevent the soil from becoming compacted and increase air permeability to avoid root rot.

2. Lighting

Brazilian iron likes to grow in a warm and well-lit environment and avoids strong light exposure. When cultivating, it is necessary to ensure sufficient light. In summer, the light is strong and it is necessary to block the strong light as much as possible. The plants can be placed in a semi-shaded place. The temperature is low in winter, so pay attention to keeping warm and expose it to light appropriately.

3. Temperature

The Brazilian iron tree is a tropical plant that likes heat and is afraid of scorching heat. If the temperature is lower than 10 degrees, it will cause frost damage. Therefore, the temperature for maintaining the Brazilian iron tree should be kept above 15 degrees. It should be given sufficient sunlight in winter to allow it to spend the winter safely.

4. Watering

Brazilian iron likes a humid environment and has high requirements for water. Avoid water accumulation during cultivation, otherwise the roots of the plants will easily rot. Do not water too much during normal times. Wait until the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering again. The temperature is low in winter and water evaporates slowly, so you should reduce watering and keep the soil in the pot slightly moist.

5. Fertilization

The requirements of Brazilian ironwood for fertilizer are not high. When fertilizing, phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer is generally used as the main fertilizer, with nitrogen fertilizer as a supplement. During the seedling period, you can apply thin liquid fertilizer once every 15 days to help speed up the growth of the plant. During the plant growth period, fertilization should be reduced, and it can be applied once every 2 months.

6. Notes

① Watering of the Brazilian iron plant should be based on the temperature. Normally, water it thoroughly when the soil is dry but no water should accumulate. If there is a tray, there should be no water accumulation in the tray. If the temperature is below fifteen degrees, you need to start controlling the water of the Brazilian iron plant and keep the soil in the pot as dry as possible. If the temperature is below five degrees, the Brazilian iron plant will suffer from frost damage.

② Except for the winter and summer when it is not suitable to apply fertilizer to Brazilian iron, it can be fertilized at other times. You can apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution or compound solution, and apply fertilizer once every 20 days or so every half a month.

The above are the cultivation methods and precautions of Brazilian iron. Strong light environment will make the leaves of Brazilian iron darker. It is best to ensure that it has a warm and comfortable environment. The temperature difference should not be too large. An environment of about 20℃ is most suitable.
