Plant habits

We mentioned above that its origin is in the tropical regions of America, so we can infer that it likes places with high temperatures, humidity and plenty of sunshine. In addition, it also has certain requirements for the soil, which we will discuss below.

Specific methods

Temperature: The suitable temperature for the growth of this plant is between 16 and 27 degrees Celsius, specifically 21 to 27 degrees from March to September, and 16 to 21 degrees from September to March of the following year. In addition, the temperature in winter should be kept above five degrees. Therefore, we must pay attention when plants overwinter. If the temperature is too low, its leaves will be frozen and wither.

Water: This plant has a relatively high need for this factor. If there is enough water, it will grow faster. However, if there is a short-term water shortage, it will not have a significant impact. Although it has a certain degree of drought resistance, it certainly cannot tolerate long-term water shortage.

Lighting: This is also very important. Except for the summer when the light is very strong and it needs appropriate shading measures, it needs sufficient sunlight at other times. Only in this way can its red bracts shine. If there is insufficient light, the color of its leaves and flowers will be greatly affected.

Soil: The requirements for this are loose, breathable and well-drained soil, preferably sandy soil. If it is a potted plant, we can mix the culture soil and leaf mold to make the substrate.

Precautions

When the temperature is very high in the summer, in addition to ensuring watering, you can also spray water on the leaves to keep the humidity around them at 50 to 60 percent.
