How to grow Pinellia ternata

How to grow Pinellia ternata

Temperature requirements of Pinellia ternata

The soil temperature for Pinellia ternata to germinate needs to be above 10℃, and it grows vigorously when the optimal growth temperature is around 20℃. When the temperature exceeds 35℃, the above-ground part of the Pinellia ternata grown in the open field without shade will wilt and die, causing large-scale lodging of the Pinellia ternata seedlings; when the temperature is below 5℃, the growth of Pinellia ternata will stagnate, and when the temperature is below 0℃, care should be taken to prevent frostbite.

The humidity requirement of Pinellia ternata

Pinellia ternata is not drought-tolerant and loves moisture. Soil with high humidity is suitable for its growth. Irrigate the ditch once with well water in the summer evening, which can keep the soil moist and lower the soil temperature. Of course, watering should be done in moderation. Pinellia ternata both likes and fears water. There should not be any accumulation of water, because accumulation of water will cause poor growth of the plant. Hypoxic conditions will cause root rot, stem rot, and seedling death, ultimately leading to a decrease in tuber yield.

Pinellia ternata’s light requirements

Pinellia is a shade-tolerant plant that is afraid of strong light. If the light is too strong, it will burn the leaves of the pinellia and easily cause the plant to wilt; if the light is too weak, it will easily cause the stems to become weak and the seedlings to fall over. Therefore, Pinellia ternata should be grown in a semi-shaded environment and can grow luxuriantly under moderate shading conditions.

Pinellia ternata's soil requirements

The roots of Pinellia ternata are relatively shallow, and moist, fertile and deep soil is suitable for its growth. Generally, it is not very demanding on the soil. Except for saline-alkali soil and overly sticky soil, it can basically grow in other soils, but the best soil is loose and fertile neutral sandy loam with a moisture content of 25%.

Fertilizer requirements for Pinellia ternata

Water and fertilizer management is the prerequisite for increasing the yield of Pinellia ternata. Before planting, you can mix bean cake fertilizer, manure and other base fertilizers into the soil to ensure adequate nutrient supply in the early growth period. After the plant enters the vigorous growth period, pay attention to topdressing. You can pour liquid fertilizer. On the one hand, it is beneficial to keep the soil moist, and on the other hand, it is beneficial to promote the growth of Pinellia ternata, thereby increasing production.
