Jasmine is famous for its fresh fragrance and elegant flowers. It is one of the world's famous ornamental flowers and is deeply loved by flower lovers. However, most people still grow jasmine in traditional soil cultivation. So can jasmine be grown in water? Let’s learn more about it below. Can jasmine be grown hydroponically? Jasmine can be grown hydroponically. Compared with soil cultivation, the management of hydroponic jasmine is relatively simple. And because the roots are directly exposed to water, the growth of the roots can be observed more clearly. How to grow jasmine hydroponically? 1. Container selection Choose a clear, sturdy container with drainage holes in the bottom so you can monitor root growth. The container should be of appropriate size to accommodate the jasmine's root system and provide it with enough room to grow. 2. Branch selection Choose branches with vigorous growth on the jasmine plant and cut them off at a length of about 7-9 cm. Use a sterilized knife to cut off all the bottom leaves, leaving only 2-4 leaves. 3. Insert container Insert the treated branches into the container at a depth of about 1/3 or 1/2 of the length of the branch, making sure the cut surface at the bottom of the branch is immersed in water. Pay attention to the water quality. It is best to use purified water. If it is tap water, it needs to be placed in the sun to dry before use. 4. Hydroponic time To grow jasmine in water, you need to choose a suitable temperature and time. Generally, April to June is just right. Too early or too late will be too cold or too hot, which is not suitable for the successful hydroponics of jasmine. And as long as the hydroponic environment is suitable, roots will generally grow in about 1 month. 5. Water culture (1) Light: Jasmine likes to grow in a semi-shady environment. It needs to be given sufficient light but not exposed to direct sunlight. It needs to be properly shaded. (2) Temperature: Maintain a suitable growth temperature, generally around 25°C. When the temperature is below 5°C in winter, it is prone to frost damage. (3) Changing water: In the early growth stage of jasmine, the water is generally changed every 2-3 days. After it takes root in the water, the water can be changed every half a month. You can add appropriate nutrient solution when changing the water. (4) Pruning: Before the jasmine sprouts new buds, the old branches from the previous year can be appropriately shortened, leaving 10-15 cm at the base. When the new branches grow to 10 cm, they can be pinched off. This can promote the growth of side branches, making the jasmine flower bloom more and the branches and leaves compact. In general, although jasmine is usually grown in soil, it can also be grown in water. The method is very simple, but management measures such as light, temperature, and nutrition must also be taken to ensure the healthy growth of hydroponic jasmine.
