When and how to repot Christmas cactus

Time to repot Christmas cactus

It is recommended to repot the Christmas cactus after it blooms. This is because the Christmas cactus plant is relatively fragile when it is blooming. If it is watered and fertilized improperly, or if it is accidentally touched, the plant will be damaged, affecting its normal growth.

Methods and steps for repotting Christmas cactus

1. Depotting : It is recommended to cut off water three days before depotting. When depotting, first use a small shovel to draw a circle along the inner wall of the pot, or tap the outer wall of the pot, which can make the potting soil easier to separate. Then turn the pot upside down, hold the rhizome, and take it out carefully.

2. Prune the roots : first dig out the plant, shake off the soil around the roots, exposing most of the plant's roots, then cut off the dead and rotten roots, and place them in a cool and ventilated place to dry.

3. Prepare the potting soil : Prepare a larger flower pot with good air permeability. Choose new soil that is soft, fertile and well-ventilated. You can mix it thoroughly with leaf mold, garden soil and a small amount of wood ash.

4. Plant in the pot : Place the plant in the middle of the prepared soil, fill the soil after the roots are expanded, compact the soil lightly, water the soil to help the roots settle, and finally place it in a well-lit and ventilated place.

Maintenance of Christmas cactus after repotting

After the Christmas cactus is repotted, it needs to be placed in a diffused light and ventilated environment and watered with a small amount of water. Wait until new leaves grow, and then gradually increase the amount of watering, and water only when the soil is dry. If properly maintained, it will adapt to the pot in about a week.
