Difference Between Sage and Rosemary

Sage belongs to the subclass Synapfolia, order Tubuloflora, and the tribe Salvia. Rosemary belongs to the Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, and Rosmarinaceae.

Morphological characteristics of sage and rosemary

The sage plant is about 60 centimeters (0.66 meters) tall. The leaves are broadly elliptical with rough or finely wrinkled gray-green to white-green short hairs. The flowering period is from June to September, and the flowers are purple, pink, white or red, depending on the variety. It has a fragrant and slightly pungent aroma.

Rosemary can be up to 2 meters tall, with quadrangular young branches, irregular longitudinal cracks, and white star-shaped hairs. It has cylindrical stems and old branches, and a dark gray cortex.

Domestic distribution of sage and rosemary

Sage is distributed in Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Taiwan, Jiangsu, Guangxi, Zhejiang, Hubei, and southern Anhui. Rosemary is mainly grown in most parts of southern China and Shandong.

Sage also has anti-aging, memory-enhancing, eyesight-improving, and headache and neuralgia-relieving effects. It also has the effect of promoting hormone function.
