For flower lovers who like to do cuttings, this situation is very common. I often encounter this situation when doing cuttings of roses. Rose stems are relatively easy to propagate by cuttings. Last year, I propagated 40-50 rose stems by cuttings and all of them survived. However, there was a problem with the soil preparation during rooting and transplanting, and then the stems gradually turned black. ① When cutting, the top of the plant turns yellow, which is because the upper tissue is necrotic. If the cuttings turn yellow from the top, it is because the upper tissues are necrotic and the nutrients are depleted. Generally, when cuttings are taken, if the rose stem does not take root or grow leaves, there will be no nutrient supply, and the nutrient cup stored inside the stem will be used up and it will turn yellow. This situation is basically hopeless, because it has no roots and will die sooner or later. If it has roots, you can cut off the yellowing part to see if there is still a chance to save it. ②During cutting, in addition to the yellowing of the stem, there will also be blackening. When we are propagating rose cuttings, we will encounter various situations. In addition to yellowing, we will also encounter blackening. There are two types of blackening of the stems. (1) Blackening of the upper part This situation is often caused by the upper tissue being damaged and infected. This situation is especially common in summer, when we are grafting. If you only cut one side, the other side is likely to have this problem. If this happens, just cut off the black part. (2) Blackening of the roots This situation is caused by problems with the roots. If you pull out the roots at this time, you will find that the roots have turned black and necrotic. If there is a problem with the roots, there is basically no hope of saving the plant. If you cut off the roots and re-cut them, it is better to find a new rose stem for cuttings, the survival rate will be higher. Therefore, if we encounter the situation where the cuttings turn yellow and black, we should take early prevention. ③Choose rose stems or rose branches with strong activity for cuttingsBefore choosing branches for cuttings, we'd better make sure that the branches are fresh. If they have not been cut and have not been in contact with water for a few days, they may even be a little wilted. It is best not to use such branches, as they will affect the survival rate of cuttings and they will easily turn yellow and black. ④Choose the right cutting seasonIf you want a high survival rate for cuttings, it is best to choose winter or spring, because these two seasons are more suitable for rose cuttings. The second best season is autumn, and the worst is summer. Because the temperature is high in summer, if you don't take good care of it, problems will occur immediately. In addition, the high temperature in summer is prone to breeding bacteria, which can easily cause black stems. Yellowing is most likely to occur after exposure to the sun. |
