Cultivation methods and precautions of gorse

Growth habit

Broom is a creeping herb in the leguminous family. It likes light and often grows in sunny places on hillsides. It can reproduce naturally by sowing and has strong germination ability and vigorous vitality. The root system of broom is particularly developed, and it is drought-resistant and barren-resistant, and can grow in adverse environments such as cracks in rocks.

Soil requirements

It is suitable to choose sandy loam with medium fertility and good drainage.

Fertilization status

Before flowering in spring, it needs to be watered and fertilized once to extend the flowering period. After flowering, apply top dressing again to promote the growth of branches and leaves. Base fertilizer can be applied once during the winter dormancy period. Normally, just give an appropriate amount of dilute fertilizer and water. Excessive fertilization can easily cause the leaves to become enlarged, which will affect the appearance.

Watering requirements

The principle of "don't water until the soil is dry, and water thoroughly when you do" still needs to be implemented. Broom plants avoid waterlogging and do not need to be watered too much. However, during the flowering period of gorse, you should pay attention to keeping the soil in the pot moist to prolong its flowering period.

Repotting requirements

The plant can be repotted every 2-3 years, preferably in early spring.

Precautions for growing gorse

Pruning work

Pruning work should be carried out in a timely manner. The pruning of broom is mainly concentrated in spring and winter. In spring, the main task is to prune short and weak branches after the flowering period to coordinate the nutrient utilization of the entire plant; in winter, after the leaves fall, prune those branches that are too long to avoid affecting the aesthetics of the plant.

Broom has a strong germination ability and grows quickly, so it is necessary to pinch the tips frequently during the growing season to maintain small leaves and enhance its aesthetics. It also helps it to produce more buds and flowers.

Drying to light

Due to its light-loving and drought-resistant characteristics, it is suitable to place broom in a sunny, well-ventilated and relatively dry place.
