The cultivation methods and precautions of Allium macrocarpon

How to grow Allium macrocarpon

soil

The growth of Allium requires loose, fertile sandy soil with good drainage.

Light and temperature

Allium grandiflorum prefers a growing environment with plenty of sunlight and does not like partial shade. The suitable temperature for its growth is between 15℃ and 25℃, and it prefers coolness. Generally, there is no need to take many anti-cold measures in winter. The above-ground part of the Allium will die in summer. The underground bulbs can be dug out and stored in a ventilated place.

Watering and fertilizing

Allium grandiflorum requires good water and fertilizer management, and watering should be combined with fertilization. During the growing period of Allium giganteum, the soil needs to be loosened and watered in time. Generally, fertilizer should be applied every 2 to 3 weeks. Some thin liquid fertilizer can be applied, and watering should be done at the same time as fertilization. In the summer when the temperature is high and the air is dry, you can increase the air humidity by shading or spraying. When it rains a lot, you need to drain the water in time to avoid water accumulation and bulb rot.

Reproduction method

Allium grandiflorum is generally propagated by sowing, with autumn sowing in September and October, and sprouting in the spring of the second year. However, allium grandiflorum propagated by sowing needs to be cultivated for 5 years before it can bloom. Allium grandiflorum can also be propagated by dividing bulbs, which mainly involves removing the small bulbs around the main bulb of the Allium grandiflorum and planting them in summer and autumn. They will generally bloom in the second year after planting.

Precautions for the cultivation of Allium macrocarpon

Diseases

A common disease of Allium grandiflorum is rot, which mainly causes bulb rot. The cause of the rot outbreak is mostly waterlogging, which causes the bulbs to have difficulty breathing and rot.

Decay

The bulbs of Allium grandiflorum are prone to rot when the drainage is poor. This usually happens more frequently when the above-ground part dries up in summer and when the rainy season comes. The underground bulbs of Allium grandiflorum can be dug out and stored in a ventilated place.
