When does Weigela bloom?

Weigela flowering period

Weigela blooms in late spring and early summer, usually from April to June. It blooms when other flowers wither in spring and the flowering period lasts until summer, which can last for more than a month. Weigela will bloom and bear fruit, and the fruiting period is in October.

What does Weigela flower look like?

The blooming of Weigela can be described as brilliant and dazzling. When the flowers bloom, they grow singly or in clusters, densely packed together, with branches covered with colorful flowers like a brocade ribbon. The purple or rose-red corolla is 3-4 cm long and funnel-shaped. The most common colors of Weigela flowers are pink and rose-red. Depending on the variety, there are also white and red flowers. Some varieties even change color when they bloom.

After the hydrangea blooms, it will bear fruit. The fruit is small and contains seeds when mature. The seeds are wingless and small and can be used for sowing and propagation.

Precautions for Weigela Flowering

In order to make the Weigela bloom more, it is necessary to do a good job of pruning the Weigela. It should not be left unpruned for a long time, nor should it be pruned excessively.

If Weigela is allowed to grow naturally without being pruned for a long time, the plants will be too dense and grow poorly, resulting in a decrease in the number of flowers. If the plant is over-pruned and a large number of branches are cut off, the number of flowers will be greatly reduced. Pruning can be done after flowering, and light pruning can be done at other times. For Weigela, there is generally only one thing that needs to be noted. If Weigela does not need to be propagated by seeds, the remaining flower branches should be cut off in time after flowering to avoid consuming too much nutrients and affecting growth. Old branches over 3 years old do not bloom and can also be pruned off.
