Watering and fertilizing during the flowering period of lipstick spider plant (watering and maintenance precautions during flowering)

Lipstick spider plant, also known as hairy-calyx lipstick flower, is a perennial green climbing vine.

The flowering period of lipstick spider plant is mainly concentrated between December and February of the following year, so everyone needs to take good care of it in October and November before winter. Generally, by waiting until the flowering period, the seedlings can bloom continuously one after another.

How to water and fertilize the lipstick hanging flower during its blooming period

Lipstick Chlorophytum likes moisture and is afraid of waterlogging. It grows well in a warm and humid environment with good ventilation and scattered sunlight at 15-25℃.

In addition to avoiding excessive exposure to the sun, drought and water shortage in daily maintenance, the vines growing in the hanging pots should be sprayed with water from time to time during the more vigorous growth periods in spring, summer and autumn to increase the air humidity and keep the leaves green and shiny.

During the flowering period, watering can be done again when the soil in the pot is basically dry, depending on the dryness and humidity of the pot soil. The principle is that there should be no water accumulation in the pot . Excessive watering will not only cause root rot and yellow leaves, but also lead to excessive stem and leaf growth and reduced flowering .

In terms of fertilization, the lipstick spider plant should be fertilized mainly with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, especially potassium fertilizers. Less nitrogen fertilizer should be applied during the flowering period to prevent the branches and leaves from growing rapidly without blooming.

We can apply fertilizer 2-3 times a month, and use a little fertilizer when watering. Be careful not to apply too much fertilizer to avoid root burn.

If you find that the terminal buds of the lipstick spider plant are necrotic for no reason, it is due to a lack of calcium fertilizer. Applying an appropriate amount of calcium fertilizer can prevent and control the necrosis of the terminal buds.

Lipstick Chlorophytum is not cold-resistant, and there are some precautions for winter maintenance:

Lipstick Chlorophytum is not cold-resistant. In winter, water should be avoided in the pot. It should be placed in a warm and ventilated place to prevent frostbite and yellowing of leaves.

In an indoor heating environment, you should avoid facing heat radiation sources such as radiators, electric heaters, and air conditioning vents to avoid burning the blades.

Potted plants grow slowly in winter and the water in the pots evaporates slowly. They do not need frequent watering or fertilization, so as not to increase the burden on the root system, which is not conducive to wintering.

Lipstick spider plant tends to branch out and grow in clusters. If left to grow naturally, the branches can grow to more than half a meter. Since most of the flowers bloom at the top of the branches, it is necessary to trim some branches that are too long or too dense.

Breaking the apical dominance can promote more branches and make the plant look fuller, which is not only conducive to ventilation, but also can promote more flowering.
