How to cultivate lotus

illumination

The more light there is and the greater the temperature difference between day and night, the brighter the color of the leaves of the lotus will be.

If there is insufficient light, the lotus will grow too tall, the whole plant will be light green or dark green, the leaves will be sparse and grow upward.

Moisture

To avoid water accumulation at the roots, avoid over-watering. Water once every 10 days or so, and water thoroughly each time.

temperature

In winter, when the temperature is below 5℃, the leaves will stop growing or suffer mild frostbite. When the temperature is below 0℃, the water in the leaves will freeze and the cells will die.

Growth will also stop when the temperature is above 35℃ in summer. Attention should be paid to ventilation and prolonged exposure to the sun should be avoided to avoid sunburn.

Fertilization

Apply a thin layer of fertilizer mainly composed of phosphorus and potassium once a month.

Do not apply too much fertilizer, especially nitrogen fertilizer, otherwise it will cause the plant to grow too tall and the leaves will not be red.

Precautions for cultivating lotus

Choose a basin with good ventilation

When growing the lotus, it is best to use a pot with drainage holes at the bottom. Novice growers can choose terracotta pots with good ventilation. Glass containers absorb heat and have poor air permeability, so it is best not to use them.

Prune old leaves promptly

Usually, it is necessary to trim the dry old leaves in time to avoid accumulation and bacterial growth.

If the plant grows too tall or too tall, you can trim the top branches and leaves to shape it and control the height of the plant.

Don't overwater

During the growing season, water thoroughly when the soil is dry. When the air is dry, water can be sprinkled around the plant, but water should not accumulate in the center of the leaves, otherwise it will cause heart rot.
