How to cultivate Buddha lotus

How to cultivate Buddha lotus

Farming methods

illumination

The Buddha Lotus prefers a sunny, cool and dry environment. It needs sufficient light in all seasons except summer. Insufficient light will cause the plant to become loose and not compact.

soil

The Buddha's seat lotus is cold-resistant and should live in soil with sufficient nutrients, good drainage and air permeability. The soil ratio is generally: 2 parts of common leaf mold, 1 part each of coarse sand and vermiculite, and the three are mixed before use.

Watering

When watering, follow the principle of "don't water unless the soil is dry, and water thoroughly when you do", to avoid long-term waterlogging and root rot. However, it should not be too dry, otherwise the growth of the Buddha Lotus will slow down and the leaf color will become dull.

Fertilization

Fertilize once every twenty days or so, using well-rotted thin liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer low in nitrogen and high in phosphorus and potassium. Fertilization is generally carried out in the morning or evening when the weather is clear. In the evening after fertilization or early the next morning, water should be applied, and water should be applied thoroughly to dilute the residual fertilizer liquid in the soil.

Precautions

Shade during high temperatures

During the high temperatures in summer, the Lotus should be placed in a shaded place to avoid exposure to the sun. During other seasons when it is exposed to sunlight, change the direction of the pot every three or four days so that every side of the lotus can receive sunlight. However, if the Buddha Lotus is kept in a semi-shaded environment for a long time, the color of the leaf tips will easily fade, affecting its appearance.

Be aware of temperature changes

The suitable temperature for the growth of Buddha Lotus is 20-30℃, and the wintering temperature is 15℃. Always pay attention to the temperature changes in the environment around the plant.

Keep the soil fertile

It is best to add wood ash and bone meal to the soil as base fertilizer to keep the soil fertile. When applying fertilizer, be careful not to splash the fertilizer onto the leaves.
