Rosemary cultivation methods and precautions

Farming methods

flowerpot

Rosemary is a type of herb that prefers a cool, dry environment, and flower pots are very important for its growth. Unglazed clay pots have the best air permeability and can be considered as the main choice. As for the size of the flower pot, one with a diameter of about 20 cm will be enough. If it is too big, the amount of water will be difficult to control. In addition, rosemary grows slowly and does not require much growing space.

soil

As for soil, ordinary garden soil is enough. Add a small amount of fertilizer to the soil before planting.

Fertilization

It is enough to fertilize two or three times a year. Use decomposed organic fertilizer and put it in the soil at the edge of the flower pot. It is okay to apply thin fertilizers frequently, and you don’t need to use too much fertilizer at one time. Apply fertilizer appropriately according to the growth of the plant.

Watering

As for watering, you need to water more in summer. Generally, when the temperature is high in summer, don't water at noon, water once in the morning and evening. In other seasons, water it once a week. During maintenance, water it according to the condition of the potting soil. If it is dry and white, water it.

temperature

Rosemary is a relatively cold-resistant plant and can be placed on a semi-enclosed balcony to overwinter. It will have no problem growing in temperatures around -5℃. Therefore, there is no need to take any warming measures in winter and you will not freeze to death. But the winter temperature in your area is below -10℃, so it is recommended to move it indoors! The temperature is high in summer, so ventilation and cooling should be carried out in time to promote its growth.

Precautions

Don't overwater

In fact, flower lovers water the plants based on experience. Flower lovers who are growing rosemary for the first time need to pay attention that although more watering is needed due to the high temperatures in summer, excessive watering should be avoided, as the plants will easily wilt and their growth will slow down. In addition, this situation may also occur in perennial plants if they are watered improperly.

Don't use chemical fertilizers

Rosemary needs to be applied with sufficient fertilizer after flowering to promote its long-lasting flowering, but it is best not to use chemical fertilizers to avoid burning the seedlings. When growing it at home, you can also water it with a little fermented rice water.
