Diseases and their prevention and treatment of royal poinciana

Root rot of royal poinciana

Causes

Ganoderma lucidum is the pathogen of this disease, and its main transmission route is the spread of spores through soil, water or wind.

symptom

Root rot, as the name suggests, attacks the roots of the Delonix regia, causing them to rot and die. This disease can cause serious damage to Delonix regia street trees in the south and central regions, especially Delonix regia trees that are more than ten years old are most vulnerable.

In the early stage of root rot of Delonix regia, the trees grow slowly, and the crown is sparse and shows yellowing. When the disease period comes, the growth of Delonix regia almost stagnates, the leaves fall off in large numbers, and the crown becomes more sparse. At this time, white hyphae or reddish-brown fruiting bodies can often be found growing on the ground part of the diseased plants, or on the roots that are exposed above the ground. The surface of the diseased roots, from the fine roots to the thick roots, is covered with mycelium, appearing in spider web, fan, felt, etc., and the tissue is rotten, and the wood tissue also grows mycelium. At the end of the root rot disease, the standing trees will wither and die, and many fruiting bodies will grow from the roots in the underground part.

Prevention and treatment methods

1. Cut down diseased Delonix regia plants, dig up the roots and fruiting bodies, burn them in a centralized location, and disinfect the soil to reduce sources of infection.

2. Digging trenches to block the spread of diseases is effective.

3. Spray 750 times diluted solution of 75% pentachloronitrobenzene wettable powder.
