Milan flower cultivation methods and precautions

How to grow Milan flowers

Maintaining good soil quality

Milan has a well-developed root system, with many fine fibrous roots. Therefore, the soil of Milan must be rich in nutrients, and new soil must be replaced in time to remove excess rotten roots. The pot needs to be repotted at least once every two years. If the growth is particularly good, repot it once a year.

Add an appropriate amount of wood ash and base fertilizer to the new soil so that the potting soil can retain fertilizer but not accumulate water, and is both breathable and nutrient-rich.

Water correctly and fertilize frequently

When Milan begins to sprout in spring, pay attention to watering and control the water appropriately. This is the most critical part of "controlling branches and promoting flowering." If watering is not controlled properly when Milan sprouts, it will easily cause the branches and leaves to grow too long. The best way is to wait until the tender heads are slightly shriveled before watering. During the other growing periods, keep the soil in the pot slightly dry and control nutrition appropriately. Promote branch and leaf growth.

Apply organic fertilizer 1 to 2 times a week, and apply phosphorus fertilizer when the flower buds have dispersed. After flowering, organic fertilizer should be applied according to the size of the plant to replenish the consumed nutrients and lay a good foundation for the next flowering. However, when applying fertilizer, you must control the water appropriately to prevent the tender heads from shrivelling.

Adequate lighting

Milan likes light. An overly shady environment will cause the branches and leaves to grow too long, with fewer flowers or even no fragrance, so Milan must receive sufficient light. In an environment with sufficient light, the leaves have strong photosynthesis, the branches produced are short and strong, the leaves are small, thick, green and bright, which promotes the continuous differentiation of flower buds.

Timely pinching and thinning

Milan has a strong germination ability, with many tiller buds and adventitious buds. In order to ensure normal flowering, it is necessary to promptly cut off the branches and leaves that are too dense, weak, and too long on the internal trunks to reduce nutrient consumption. When the branches grow to 15 to 20 leaves, they should be pinched to promote more side branches. Timely pruning can also control the length of each branch, which not only controls the perfect plant shape, but also ensures that each flowering is neat and beautiful.

Milan flower cultivation precautions

Controlling the duration of sunlight

Milan flowers need sunlight all year round, preferably 12 hours of sunlight a day. Therefore, it is best to place the Milan flowers in the home outdoors or on the balcony in a sunny place, so as to ensure that the leaves are bright green and the flowers have beautiful fragrance.

Speaking of light, the light time in winter is weak and short, so how should Milan be grown in winter?

Add fertilizer in time

Milan flowers like fertilizer. If fertilizer is not supplemented in a timely and reasonable manner during the growth period, the plant will wilt. Milan flowers bloom many times a year, and nutrients are consumed quickly. If there is a lack of nutrients, it will be difficult for the plant to bloom, or the flowers will fall before they bloom. Therefore, fertilizer needs to be added in time after flowering to prepare for the next flowering. The fertilizer during the growth period can be slightly more concentrated, and the frequency of fertilization can be appropriately increased during the flowering period.

Reasonable watering

It is also mentioned in the maintenance methods that watering of Milan flowers is very important. If there is a lack of water, the plant will not grow large. But if there is too much water, it will cause the leaves to turn yellow and the roots to rot, which will affect the flowering of Milan. Therefore, it is recommended to water it once every 2 to 3 days.
