Cultivation methods and precautions of Schefflera

soil

The soil for growing Schefflera requires deep, loose and fertile soil. Home potted plants generally use leaf mold, peat soil, garden soil, and 1/4 river sand or perlite mixed evenly. To ensure soil fertility, a small amount of cake fertilizer can be added to the soil as base fertilizer.

Method of planting in pots

Select strong seedlings with well-developed and complete root systems, and plant them in pots in late autumn or before germination in spring.

Before planting, put a layer of rubble at the bottom of the container and add a small amount of nutrient soil. After placing the plant in the pot, add a small amount of soil to tightly combine the roots with the soil. Then water thoroughly and compact the soil. After the newly potted plants are planted, they should be placed in semi-shade for a week, and then gradually moved to sunlight for normal management.

Watering

Schefflera grows well in an environment with high air humidity and sufficient soil moisture. In daily maintenance, pay attention to timely replenishment of water, but avoid water accumulation, otherwise it will cause a large number of leaves to fall. Pay attention to water control under low temperature conditions in winter.

If Schefflera is grown in a plastic flowerpot, attention should be paid to timely drainage. Water it in time before the soil dries out, and keep the soil moist at all times. When the weather is dry, spray the area around the plant. During the rainy season, pay attention to shelter from rain to avoid water accumulation in the pot.

Sunlight, temperature

Schefflera prefers a semi-shaded environment and should be placed in a place with sufficient bright scattered light, so it is best to put a pot of it at home. As long as there is bright light in your home, you can enjoy it for a long time. In winter, it can be moved near the south window. In spring and autumn, the flower pot can be moved outdoors to a well-ventilated place for maintenance for a period of time, but pay attention to proper shade to prevent the leaves from turning yellow due to excessive sunlight.

Schefflera is not cold-resistant, and the room temperature should be kept above 10℃ in winter. If the room temperature is below 8℃ for a long time, the leaves will gradually turn yellow. If it drops below 0℃, the leaves will fall off. Therefore, the indoor temperature needs to be controlled during the most difficult winter for Schefflera.

Timely repotting and pruning

Schefflera needs to be repotted once every spring. If you use a plastic pot, make sure the soil is slightly loose.

Schefflera grows quickly and easily sprouts leggy branches. Once a plant is mature, it needs frequent shaping and pruning to keep its shape neat and beautiful. The Schefflera that has been cared for for many years has perennial old branches and the plant is too large. It can be heavily pruned every year when new buds sprout and repotted to cut off the branches, leaves and old roots.

Precautions

If Schefflera is obtained by cuttings, do not rush to repot it in order to ensure its formation. Wait until it has grown significantly before repotting it. It is usually necessary to change the pot after 2 to 3 days of growth, and then repot once a year.

Create a comfortable maintenance environment. Ensure suitable temperature, drought and flood conditions, water in time, spray water on the leaves in time in summer, and ensure sufficient sunlight time.
