How to cultivate Cymbidium orchid

How to cultivate Cymbidium orchid

According to the characteristics of Cymbidium, its cultivation methods can be roughly summarized into six aspects: the material should be breathable, contain fertilizer, less repotting, appropriate deep planting, more sunlight, and good ventilation.

Material breathable

If you want to grow good roots for Cymbidium orchids, its planting material is the key. Nowadays, most orchids are grown with granular planting materials, which can basically solve the problems of air permeability and water repellency. However, for Cymbidium orchids, it is more important to emphasize that the planting material of Cymbidium orchids should be coarser than that of other orchids. Please follow the steps below to make the formula:

① Fairy soil 60% , planting stone 20% , burnt soil (medical stone can also be used, which has the effect of protecting the grass and improving the art) 10% , snake wood (willow bark) 10% ;

80% Orchid Friends planting material and 20% Fairy soil.

Contains nutrients

The pseudobulb of Cymbidium orchid is not obvious, and its growth mainly depends on the roots absorbing nutrients in the planting material and its thick and long roots and tall grass. Therefore, planting Cymbidium orchid requires more fertilizer than other orchids. The leaves of Cymbidium are firm, thick and hard, so the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be emphasized during fertilization.

Less repotting

It is best not to repot the Cymbidium after it has been planted. Sometimes the central leaves of Cymbidium are still emerging after two or three years, which shows that the growth cycle of Cymbidium is relatively long. It often takes several years or even up to 4-5 years for Cymbidium to adapt to the pot, grow roots, increase seedlings, grow strong, and bloom. Repotting less frequently means that Cymbidium can be strengthened and grown in a stable growth environment. Time has proven that Cymbidium orchids can adapt to new pots and have a considerable germination rate in the next two or three years.

Suitable for deep planting

The pseudobulb of Cymbidium is not obvious, and the roots of Cymbidium are thick and long, so it is suitable for deep planting and large pots. The pseudobulb of Cymbidium orchid is not obvious. In order to enhance and strengthen the orchid seedlings, try to choose a larger orchid pot according to the condition of the grass to meet the growth of the orchid roots.

Mostly Yang

Since the veins of Cymbidium leaves are transparent and can withstand short-term strong light exposure, Cymbidium should be exposed to more sunlight. Throughout the year, only in summer should appropriate shade be provided according to weather conditions. In the other three seasons, the plants can be allowed to receive sunlight. However, if the tips of the plants burn or the old grass is about to fall, it means that the light is too strong and the shading must be increased.

Good ventilation

Since most of the native orchids grow in mountains with high altitudes, they objectively require good ventilation and a certain temperature difference. When growing Cymbidium orchids, more attention should be paid to the importance of ventilation than other orchids. The leaves of Cymbidium are tightly bundled, the leathery texture is firm and less fleshy, and it has relatively low requirements for air humidity. It is drought-resistant and waterlogged-resistant, making it more suitable for balcony cultivation. In spring, summer and autumn, the balcony windows should be fully opened to increase the air replacement capacity.
