Can kapok grow in the north? Is it cold-resistant?

1. Can kapok grow in the north?

Kapok cannot grow in the north. Because its cold resistance is relatively poor and the temperature in the north is low, it is difficult to meet its growth needs. It is a tropical tree species that prefers high temperature and high humidity environments. Especially young saplings have poor cold resistance. If they encounter low temperatures of 5-8 degrees for a long time, their branches may be frostbitten. In the north, the temperature drops significantly after winter, usually below zero degrees, which is difficult for it to bear, so it cannot grow in the north.

In addition, considering the pH value of the soil, it is not suitable to be planted in the north. It likes an acidic soil environment. The soil in the north is too alkaline, and its growth will be hindered, making it difficult to bloom and grow normally. If you want to grow it in the northern region, you not only need to build a large greenhouse, but also pay attention to soil problems. It is very troublesome to manage, so it is best not to grow it in the north.

2. The growth environment of kapok

Kapok prefers a warm, dry and well-lit growing environment. The suitable temperature for its growth is between 20 degrees and 30 degrees. It has poor cold resistance and the minimum temperature cannot be lower than 5 degrees, otherwise it will be frostbite. It is drought-resistant but not water-resistant, and is especially afraid of waterlogging environments. During cultivation, it is best to use fertile, well-drained, deep, slightly acidic or neutral soil, as this soil environment is most conducive to growth.
