As one of the top ten traditional famous flowers in China, daffodil has always been a treasure among flowers that is deeply loved by people. It can be grown in soil or in hydroponics. Many people like to grow it in hydroponics at home. Let’s talk about the cultivation method of daffodils (hydroponics). 1. Rhizome selection To grow daffodils in water, you first need to choose bulbs with good growth and fuller bodies to serve as the main body of development. Diseased or damaged stems are not conducive to survival. Then peel off the outer skin of the bulb to expose the white flesh, cut off the old roots at the bottom of the bulb, and then you can put it in water and pot it. 2. Water quality selection It is best to choose natural water sources for hydroponic daffodils. Well water, rainwater, and river water are all suitable. If you really don’t have this kind of water, you can also choose to dry the tap water at home for a day or two before using it. For hydroponic cultivation, pay attention to immersing the water in a shallow basin, about one-third of the bulb is immersed. 3. Maintain the environment The environmental requirements for hydroponic daffodils are relatively high. The temperature environment should be between 10℃ and 15℃. High or low temperatures are not conducive to growth. Try to place them on a balcony that is well ventilated and well-lit. The maintenance environment should not be too dim. Usually pay attention to add water or change the water to prevent the pot from drying out. 4. Change water regularly When the daffodils are first potted, the water needs to be changed once a day, and then about every 2-3 days. After the flower buds are formed, the water can be changed once a week. To promote germination and flowering, you can also add 2-3 drops of nutrient solution to the water to promote growth. 5. Appropriate fertilization To grow daffodils hydroponically, you need to provide them with sufficient nutrients. During the flowering period of daffodils, you can apply an appropriate amount of phosphorus fertilizer to facilitate the growth of daffodil bulbs. In order to prolong the flowering period of daffodils, you can add an appropriate amount of salt to the water used to grow daffodils. 6. Disease prevention Since daffodils are grown in water, they are sometimes prone to insect pests, so special attention should be paid. The main diseases and pests of daffodils include large brown spot disease, leaf blight, nematode disease, aspergillosis, penicillium, etc. The most common diseases of daffodils are brown spot disease and leaf blight. Brown spot disease mainly harms the leaves and stems of the plant. When infected, the leaf tips turn brown and then slowly expand, causing the plant to die. It can be prevented and controlled by spraying with a solution of chlorothalonil. Leaf blight will cause the diseased leaves to turn green and yellow, and black particles will appear. It can be treated with mancozeb. Its main pest is root mites, which can be treated with dicofol. It is not difficult to grow daffodils. As long as you take good care of them in your daily life, you can enjoy the beautiful daffodils you grow in water when they are in full bloom.
