How to grow spring fern hydroponically to make it more vigorous?

Spring feather is a perennial evergreen herb of the genus Philadelphus in the Araceae family. It is a common large ornamental foliage plant. Its leaves are somewhat similar to Monstera , and are green all year round. Most importantly, it is cheap and is very popular among flower lovers. So how can we grow spring fern hydroponically to make it more vigorous? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Lighting

Spring feathers like shade and don't like strong light. Therefore, you should place it in a place in the house where there is some light, but the light is not particularly strong. Be sure to shade it in the summer, because the light is very strong and can easily burn its leaves; in the winter, just place it in a location with better sunlight.

2. Temperature

The suitable growth temperature for spring fern is 18-30℃, and the wintering temperature should be kept above 10℃. When the temperature is above 30℃, ventilation and cooling are required, and the number of watering should be increased.

3. Water quality

Hydroponic spring fern has relatively high requirements on water quality, and it is best to use purified water or deionized water for cultivation. At the same time, the water needs to be changed regularly to keep the water clean. Generally speaking, you only need to change the water every 5 days or so.

4. Fertilization

Add an appropriate amount of water-soluble fertilizer , such as general fertilizer or fertilizer rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other elements, to the water to provide the nutrients needed by the plants. Follow the directions on the fertilizer package to fertilize.

5. Check the root system

Check the condition of the roots regularly and make adjustments if there are any lesions or excessive growth. If the roots are observed to turn black or rot, it may be caused by lack of oxygen or bacterial infection, and the nutrient solution should be replaced immediately with fresh one. In addition, to ensure that the roots have enough space to grow, you can regularly trim the roots that are too long to keep them healthy.

6. Pest and disease control

There are fewer diseases and pests in hydroponic spring feathers, the most common of which are leaf spot and scale insects. When leaf spot occurs, the diseased leaves can be cut off and triazole fungicides can be used for spraying if necessary, which has a better treatment effect. Scale insects are generally captured manually. When their numbers are large, they are sprayed with 1000 times diluted 50% oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate.

In general, as a typical internet celebrity plant, the maintenance method of spring fern is very simple. During the hydroponic process, pay special attention to water quality, nutrition and other aspects, and then provide a light and temperature environment suitable for growth. It is basically easy to grow them well and vigorously.
