How to care for newly bought petunias

1. How to deal with newly bought petunias

When you just buy petunias, don't put them in pots directly. You need to check the condition of the plant first. If it is a seedling, you can let it adapt to a warm and humid environment for a while. When it grows two or three or more true leaves, the roots are almost grown, and then you can put it in the pot. If it is a relatively large seedling, you need to first check whether the branches and leaves of the plant are dry or yellow. If so, you need to trim them together and then put them in the pot.

2. How to grow the newly bought petunia

1. Soil: When repotting petunia seedlings, it is best to apply a thin layer of fertilizer at the bottom of the pot. Do not remove all the original soil. If the original soil is not good, you can pat some of it off appropriately. Be careful not to damage the roots. Fill the rest with loose soil. It is best to use new soil that is loose, fertile and well-drained.

2. Temperature: It is suitable for growing in a warm environment. It is best to provide it with a growing environment of about 20℃ and good ventilation. During the high temperatures in summer, you can provide appropriate shade and watering to cool it down. In winter, in order for it to survive the winter safely, the temperature should be kept at least above 5°C.

3. Watering: Don’t water it too much after you buy it. Just water it appropriately and don’t let the soil dry out. After it resumes normal growth, water it according to the principle of "water as soon as it is dry and water thoroughly when watered" to keep the soil slightly moist but not waterlogged. In summer, you can spray water around it frequently to increase the humidity of the air and make it more conducive to its growth.

4. Light: It likes light, but when you first buy it, since it has not yet adapted to the new environment, you need to place it in a place with scattered light for maintenance. Do not place it directly in direct sunlight to prevent the flowers and leaves from being burned. After it returns to normal growth, it needs to be given sufficient light. When the light is strong in summer and autumn, appropriate shade can be provided to prevent damage to the plant.

5. Fertilization: No fertilizer is needed when you first buy it. Because it is still in the potting stage, fertilizing it can easily cause root burn. Wait for a while and let it adapt to the new environment before fertilizing it. When fertilizing, you can choose fertilizers with high nitrogen and potassium content and slightly lower phosphorus content.
