Anthurium has good meanings and represents luck and prosperity. Many people keep this evergreen plant at home. However, the growth of Anthurium is not as good as people wish. Sometimes the leaves turn yellow and dry. So what is the reason why the leaves of Anthurium turn yellow? Let’s take a look below. 1. Normal yellowing of leaves If one or two old leaves at the bottom of the potted calla lily plant turn yellow, it is a normal phenomenon and part of the normal metabolism of the leaves. When the leaves reach a certain age, they will turn yellow and wither. These leaves can be directly cut off and there is no need to worry too much. 2. Correct treatment of yellow leaves of Spathiphyllum If you find that the leaves of the potted anthurium in your home are turning yellow, don't rush to throw away the plant, because as long as the plant still has some tender leaves, it can grow new buds. As long as the yellow leaves are removed, new leaves can be grown again. As long as the anthurium plant is not completely rotten, the problem can be solved in time. If handled properly, the anthurium can recover its health. As for those leaves that have turned yellow, it is impossible for them to turn green again. You can only cut off the yellow leaves to avoid causing more trouble. Another thing to note is that when pruning yellow leaves, be sure to disinfect the scissors in advance. The easiest way is to scald them with boiling water, or soak them in carbendazim, you can also wipe them with alcohol, or even wash them with detergent. 3. Abnormal situation of yellowing leaves of Spathiphyllum 1. Infectious diseases When the leaves of anthurium turn yellow, the first thing to do is to rule out whether it is infected with disease. Leaves infected with disease will have some yellow or black stripes or patches. Excessive watering, frequent humidity, and poor ventilation can lead to fungal infections. If not treated promptly, the entire plant will be infected with leaf spot and black rot. The solution is very simple, just cut off all the diseased leaves in time, and then spray some fungicides. The most commonly used ones are thiophanate-methyl or methyl thiophanate solution. Spray once every 7 to 10 days, and spray continuously for about 2 to 3 times. 2. Infection with pests It is very rare for anthuriums to be infected by pests when grown indoors, but it does not mean that they will not be infected by pests. If the air is particularly dry, the environment is poorly ventilated, and there is less watering, anthuriums may be infected by red spider mites. When this happens, there will be some small red spots on the back of the leaves. In severe cases, there will be some small spider webs on the back of the leaves. The method to infect red spider mites is very simple. In the early stage, you can directly spray some soapy water, that is, dilute some soap with less additives with water, and spray it on the plants. Pay attention to spraying evenly on the leaves and back of the leaves. If the insect pests are more serious, you need to spray pesticides in a ventilated environment, such as the common Jinmanzhi, Avermectin, Damanling and Aikamitsu. 3. No recovery after transplanting After the spring comes, many people will repot their potted anthuriums. Repotting will cause a series of adverse conditions. During the recovery process, the anthurium will lose some old leaves at the bottom of the plant. If the old leaves turn yellow at this time, there is nothing to do. However, if large-scale yellow leaves occur, it means that the plant has not recovered after transplanting. Place the transplanted anthurium in a ventilated and shaded place, check whether the potting soil is too moist, avoid excessive drying of the soil, and adjust watering in time according to the situation. 4. Lack of nutrients and yellow leaves Potted anthuriums maintained indoors do not require too much fertilizer , but they do need to be supplemented with thin fertilizer occasionally. Just like other plants, if the potting soil lacks nitrogen, magnesium, iron, etc., it will cause yellow leaves. For example, if the veins of the leaves are still green, but the leaves as a whole turn yellow, you need to add some ferrous sulfate or organic liquid fertilizer. In fact, you only need to add thin fertilizer or other water-soluble fertilizer once every one or two months in spring and summer to meet the growth needs of white calla lilies. 5. Yellow leaves due to low temperature Anthuriums rarely get frostbite when kept indoors because the indoor temperature is always relatively balanced. When the temperature is extremely low, the leaves will turn yellow or even get frostbite. If the maintenance temperature is below 7 degrees, the leaves may turn yellow. In addition, if the potted anthurium is placed next to an air conditioner or heater, it will easily cause yellow leaves. The anthurium should not be placed in a place with a lot of oil smoke. 6. Lighting issues Potted anthuriums are relatively shade-tolerant. They prefer scattered light or softer direct light in the morning and are afraid of excessive sunlight. If overexposed to the sun, the leaves will easily be sunburned. The first sign is that the leaf tips will turn yellow and then brown, and then they will gradually wither. If this happens, move it to a shaded place and cut off the sunburned leaves in time. Another situation is over-dependence on the environment. Although Anthurium is shade-tolerant, it does not mean that it can be kept in the dark for a long time. Otherwise, the leaves will become dull and will not bloom. The leaves will look particularly delicate and will easily turn yellow. 7. Poor water quality causes yellow leaves This situation is quite common, because most people use tap water directly to supplement nutrients for the plant. White calla lilies are relatively sensitive to chlorine. Tap water contains more fluorine and chlorine compounds, as well as other minerals. Using tap water directly to replenish water for potted plants for a long time will cause minerals to deposit on the soil surface, which can easily cause the leaves of white calla lilies to turn yellow. To avoid this situation, you can use more rainwater when watering, and the tap water can be left for two or three days before use. 8. Overwatering The most common reason for the yellowing leaves of indoor potted peace lilies is over-watering. For novice flower growers, most of them do not know the frequency and amount of watering. Anthuriums have the ability to tolerate short-term drought. If they lack water for a long time, the plants will droop. If they are watered thoroughly in time, they will recover. But if you water too much, the leaves will turn yellow and in severe cases, the roots will rot. If you water the plant frequently and find that the leaves of the anthurium are turning yellow, be sure to check whether there is root rot. If there is no root rot, you must cut off the yellow leaves in time, dry the soil in the pot, and control watering. If the roots of the white calla lily have rotten roots, you must promptly remove and discard the rotten parts, and apply some fungicide in time, or replant the plant and use new potting soil to grow healthy plants. Before transplanting, be sure to soak the plant in a solution of carbendazim to avoid residual fungi and allow the plant to resume growth healthily. That’s it |
