Why do clover leafs close up?

Why do clover leafs close up?

1. Name

This phenomenon is very normal. There is a more professional name for it, which is nocturnal movement. This name is mainly due to the change in light, because the leaves feel different light during the day and at night. It photosynthesizes during the day, so its leaves will be stretched out as much as possible so that the absorption of light will increase slightly, and they will close at night so that the loss of heat and water will not be too serious.

2. Types

Generally, this phenomenon occurs not only in this type of plant, but also in some leguminous plants, such as peanuts and albizzia. In addition, some other plants, such as Oxalis, also have this phenomenon.

In fact, this phenomenon is beneficial. It allows us to judge whether the plant is growing healthily. For example, if the plant is very healthy, its leaves will begin to close in the evening. However, if it is sick or the environment is not suitable for it, its night sensitivity will be much worse.

3. Reasons

The reason for this phenomenon is that the cells inside its pulvinus undergo periodic turgor, so it will change. During the day, it absorbs more water and grows bigger, so the leaves will unfold. At night, the leaves above will lose some water and begin to close.

All in all, this is a very normal phenomenon and we don’t need to worry about anything. We only need to start worrying when we find that this kind of grass has not closed up in the evening. At this time, we can consider changing it to a better environment. If it is sick, we can consider treating it.
