Tulip is a perennial bulbous plant belonging to the genus Tulip in the Liliaceae family. It is famous for its beautiful flowers and diverse colors, and is often used in garden arrangements and potted viewing. Here we talk about the cultivation methods and precautions of tulips. 1. Soil Tulips like loose, breathable and fertile soil. Mix one part leaf mold, one part coarse sand and half part garden soil evenly for planting. You can also buy special soil and plant them in the ground or in pots. 2. Lighting Tulips are light-loving plants. If the light is too weak, the tulips will grow branches too long and not bloom. 3. Watering Tulips are neither drought nor water tolerant. Overly wet soil has poor air permeability and is prone to gray mold and root rot. If it is too dry after planting, the flower buds will shrink early or not bloom. 4. Fertilization During the germination period, tulips should be fertilized with nitrogen-based fertilizers . Generally, it is applied once during the growth period of tulips. When entering the differentiation of flower buds, fertilizers mainly composed of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied. It is only necessary to apply once. Do not fertilize again after flowers are formed. After the flowers bloom, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers again to strengthen the bulbs. 5. Temperature The suitable temperature for tulip growth is between 10 and 25 degrees. If the temperature is too high, the growth will be too fast and the flowering period will be very short. If the temperature is too low, the tulips will enter a dormant state. The best planting season is November and March or April of the following year. There are early and late varieties of tulips. The late varieties are hardy and easy to grow, while the early varieties are more delicate. Before planting tulips, they must be stored at a low temperature of 5 degrees below and 3 degrees above for about two months before they can be planted. 6. Bulb harvesting and storage After the stems of tulips wither, dig them out of the soil, peel off the outer skin, and place them in a cool and ventilated place to dry for about a week. Then wrap them in paper and refrigerate them. Check them after a period of time to prevent rot and pick them out in time. Before planting, take out the bulbs, clean the skin, and immerse them in a carbendazim solution for disinfection before planting. 7. How to plant bulbs Soak the tulips in the carbendazim solution for half an hour, then take them out to dry. Put soil in the pot at a distance of two tulip bulbs from the pot mouth, then put the bulbs in the pot with the buds facing up, cover the bulbs with soil, and compact the soil with your hands. The tulip buds will fall out about half a centimeter, then water them thoroughly and place them in a place with scattered light for maintenance. After the tulips sprout, slowly move them to the sun for normal maintenance. That’s it |
