Cultivation methods and precautions of pine red plum

The pine red plum is named because its leaves resemble pine leaves and its flowers resemble red plums. Because its double-petaled flowers resemble peonies , it is also called pine leaf peony. Although its flowers are not large, they are bright in color and exquisite in shape. Many people like this plant and also like to grow it at home. Let’s talk about the cultivation methods and precautions of pine red plum.

1. Pot soil

Pine red plum is not picky about the soil, as long as we ensure the soil is breathable and water-permeable. We can mix garden soil and particles such as river sand to ensure that the soil is breathable and will not become compacted. If you want to solve the problem once and for all and allow it to continue growing without frequent repotting, it is recommended that you use ready-made nutrient soil. Just use soil with good air permeability and choose a flowerpot that is not too big. Never use a deep pot, use a shorter one, so that it will not cause problems in our home.

2. Temperature

When you hear the name "pine red plum", don't think that it is as cold-resistant as plum blossoms . It is not cold-resistant. If the temperature drops below minus one degree, the whole plant will freeze to death. So if we want to ensure normal growth, the temperature in winter cannot be lower than ten degrees, so that flower buds can quickly grow on its branches and bloom. You must remember this.

3. Lighting

Pine Red Plum is a plant that likes strong light. If you want it to grow well, it must be exposed to sufficient light. Therefore, we must put it under the sunlight all year round, especially in autumn. When autumn comes, more light will allow its flower buds to differentiate quickly, and the branches will age, and flower buds will continue to appear on the branches. If there is a lack of light, the leaves will turn yellow and the branches will grow too long.

4. Watering

Pine Red Plum does not require much water and is relatively drought-resistant, but prolonged drought can cause the entire plant to have yellow leaves and fall off, and in severe cases, the branches may wither. It is recommended that you ensure that the soil in the pot is half dry and then water it thoroughly in time to ensure the ventilation of the environment and let the soil in the pot dry and wet quickly. This watering method can make it grow vigorously and have luxuriant branches at home.

5. Fertilization

The fertilizer required for pine red plum during its growth and flowering stages is different. During its growing season, you should supplement it with a balanced fertilizer of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Supplement it once or twice a month, and it will be able to grow normally. After the arrival of autumn, start using high-phosphorus fertilizer to promote flowering. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be used at a concentration of 1:1000, two or three times a month. Its branches will stop growing and quickly differentiate flower buds, and it will be able to bloom completely when winter comes.

6. Pruning

Careful pruning is done once a year after flowering to dwarf the crown, maintain a beautiful tree shape, and encourage the plant to sprout new flowering branches. When pruning, you need to pay attention that except for some branches that affect the plant shape, other branches should not be pruned away completely. Generally, pruned half or two-thirds of them are sufficient. Because there are no vital buds on the mature and woody branches of the pine red plum, if it is pruned too heavily, leaving only the mature branches, the plant will not be able to resume growth.
