The proportions of the branches and the flowerpots should be appropriate

① Measure the size of the vase: the size of the vase = height + diameter.

② Determine the height of the first main branch: the standard size is 1.5 times the size of the vase; if the environment requires, the flower arrangement can be expanded to twice the size of the vase; if the environment is small and only for personal appreciation, it is acceptable to reduce the size to 1 times.

③ Determine the height of the second and third main branches: the height of the second main branch should be 3/4 of the length of the first main branch; the height of the third main branch should be 3/4 of the length of the second main branch.

The flower branches surrounding these three main branches are called "secondary branches", which, as the name suggests, are used to enrich the entire composition. Therefore, the number of secondary branches is not limited and can be freely increased or decreased according to the needs of the work.

But there is a principle that the height of each branch cannot exceed the main branch to which it belongs. The length of the main branch is limited, and the secondary branches can only be arranged according to each person's aesthetic taste and artistic accomplishment.

Big flowers should be paired with small flowers

If the main flower is rose, the guest flower should be gladiolus; if the main flower is dahlia, the guest flower should be gerbera; if the main flower is lily, the guest flower should be hosta. Never match flowers of different types but similar shapes, otherwise it will be difficult to distinguish between the host and the guest.

Dark colors should be matched with light colors

If the color of the main flower is dark red, the guest flowers should be matched with light red. If the same dark red color is chosen, or the guest flowers are darker than the main flower, it will easily create an effect where the guest flowers outshine the main flower.

Only one kind of leaves can be used

If the main flower has leaves and the guest flower also has leaves, only one of them can be chosen and the other sacrificed; or neither of them can be used and mountain grass can be used instead. If you use two leaves at the same time, or use several kinds of mountain grasses, it will look too messy.

The leaves should be slanted rather than straight

Whether the flowers are placed in a pot or a vase, the posture of the flowers and leaves should always be slanted rather than upright. As for what is the ideal slope, it depends on the specific size and shape of the vase.

The structure should be sparse rather than dense

Flower arrangement should have some artistic conception, but the composition should never be too dense. If the plants are densely packed, there will be a suffocating and unventilated feeling, which makes people feel uncomfortable; if the plants are sparse, the flowers and leaves will be able to show their beauty easily.

The leaves and flowers cannot be too high

Before pruning, you must have an idea in mind and then you can start pruning. The main flower should be slightly higher, and the auxiliary flowers should be slightly lower; the accompanying leaves must not be the same height as the flowers. If the vase is a disk or vase, the leaves should be scattered and drooping around the vase.

Different colors of flowerpot and flowers

The color of the flowers must not be the same as the color of the flower pots or vases; for example, if the flowers are bright red, bright purple, bright yellow, or dark yellow, the flower pot should be all white or light blue. Only by contrasting the dark and light colors can the brightness of the flowers be brought out. If the flowers and the vase are both dark colors, the visual effect will be greatly reduced.

The nature of flowers must be clearly understood

When choosing flowers, you should be aware of the durability of the main flowers and guest flowers. It is more desirable that the main flower and the secondary flowers have the same durability; otherwise, although the main flower is still radiant, the secondary flowers have wilted, or the secondary flowers are still fresh, but the main flower has withered, both of which are disappointing.

For example, short, round ones are suitable for placing on the dining table or wine cabinet; tall, square ones are suitable for placing in front of the window or on the desk.
