How to hydroponically cultivate Anthurium

How to hydroponically cultivate Anthurium

Hydroponics steps

Choose a pot of anthurium with a beautiful plant shape and flowers, gently pat the sides of the pot, remove it and change the pot.

Remove the peat soil

Soak in water to clean

Rinse the roots with a faucet with a spray head and trim away yellow leaves and root stumps.

Soak the cleaned roots in disinfectant for 30 minutes. Be careful to use diluted disinfectant as much as possible to avoid damaging the sensitive roots of Anthurium. After soaking, dry in a cool place and then grow hydroponically.

Prepare a round glass bottle and place pebbles on the bottom for decoration.

Add water to cover the roots two-thirds of the way.

Place the anthurium plant in a container and add some nutrient solution to the water regularly.

Daily care

1. It is difficult to clean the matrix residue on the root hairs of Anthurium in one go. You can gradually clean it in combination with daily maintenance. Do not force wash it because it will cause root damage.

2. The roots are generally not pruned. Depending on the situation after water cultivation, the growing roots are only slightly cut short.

3. The leaves should be sprayed with water several times throughout the year. After the flowers fade, cut off the remaining flowers and spray foliar fertilizer so that the anthurium can grow normally.

4. Anthurium requires a stable water temperature, and the water temperature difference should not be too large when changing the nutrient solution.

Common Problems and Solutions

The leaves of hydroponic Anthurium turn yellow

Failure to add water to the hydroponic container in time, insufficient nutrients in the water, or insufficient light will cause the leaves of Anthurium to turn yellow. Therefore, when the leaves of hydroponic Anthurium turn yellow, the following methods can be adopted according to the specific situation:

Add water promptly.

Add nutrient solution at the right time.

Supplemental sunlight.

Root rot of hydroponic anthurium

If the amount of water in the container is not properly controlled, the plant is filled too full and the water is not changed frequently, the oxygen content in the water will be low; if there is too little water, the roots of the plant will lack water and grow slowly. All these reasons can lead to root rot.

During the hydroponic process of Anthurium, we can prevent root rot by regularly changing water and increasing oxygen. When root rot occurs, the treatment methods are: cutting off the rotten rhizomes, disinfecting and soaking, and changing the water for cultivation.
