How to make and maintain Forsythia suspensa bonsai

How to make and maintain Forsythia suspensa bonsai

1. Production method

1. After about 3 years of planting, its trunk will become very thick. You can make it bent, or remove its top, or pinch off the center, this is the initial shape. Pay attention to cultivating transitional branches so that the thickness of the branches and trunk of the bonsai will be more coordinated when it grows up. Then you can also go to the mountains and dig up some old stumps to make bonsai. The shape will be very elegant and can be formed in a very short time.

2. It looks very brilliant in spring, and the green leaves are very vibrant in summer and autumn. The most common forms of potted plants include straight trunks, slanted trunks, curved trunks, and those placed next to water or on rocks, all of which look very beautiful. If the plant is propagated artificially, you can tie and trim its trunk when it is a seedling. Because its branches are relatively long, it is necessary to control branch growth during its growth period to promote the formation of lateral buds and grow a compact crown. By June, when its new branches are 60% to 70% woody, they can be coiled to adjust the crown.

2. Maintenance Methods

1. First, transplant it from winter to spring, shape it first, cut off unnecessary branches, and then plant it in a larger flowerpot. It is best to use loose, breathable, and well-drained sandy soil. Then compact the soil, water it thoroughly, and place it in a windproof but sunny place. After it survives, wait until the soil is dry before watering it. If you must water it, water it thoroughly. If the soil in the pot is too wet or too dry, it will be bad for its growth. During the growth period, pay attention to removing buds and cutting off extra branches.

2. It likes warm and bright areas, can tolerate cold and drought, but is afraid of stagnant water. During the growth period, you can place it outdoors in a place with sufficient sunlight and good air circulation. Even if the temperature is high, there is no need to shade it. The soil should not be too dry, and you should also pay attention to drainage. Remove the unnecessary branches to keep its shape graceful and posture simple.
