When is the best time to repot Anthurium? Repotting methods and precautions

Anthurium repotting time

Anthurium needs to be repotted. Usually, you can consider repotting after 1-3 years of cultivation. If the original pot can no longer meet the growth of the root system, or the soil in the pot has become hardened and lacks nutrients, you should prepare to repot. It is generally recommended to repot in the warm spring, when the climate is conducive to the recovery of plant growth.

How to repot anthurium

1. Processing rhizomes

Stop watering the Anthurium before removing it from the pot and keep the soil dry, so that it can be removed from the pot faster. After removing it from the pot, shake off the broken soil on the roots, rinse it with clean water, trim the old and dead roots, and soak them in disinfectant for disinfection and sterilization. Then place them in a well-ventilated and cool environment to dry the roots. After treatment, you can re-pot it.

2. Prepare the soil

Anthurium likes loose, fertile and well-breathable growing soil. The soil should be exposed to the sun for sterilization before use to ensure that the newly replaced soil has a healthy and good environment. Small stones can be laid in the basin to increase the air permeability of the potting soil. After potting, the soil should be compacted and immediately watered to retain moisture.

Things to note when repotting Anthurium

The newly potted anthurium needs 7 days of acclimatization time to allow it to adapt to the new cultivation environment. You can water it thoroughly once when you just repot it to ensure the drainage and air permeability of the potting soil so that it can successfully pass the acclimatization period. After that, you can slowly increase the daily light time and start normal watering, fertilizing and maintenance.
