How to make asparagus fern bonsai

How to collect materials

Choose an irregular 56cm long white marble shallow basin and several matching racks.

Select two asparagus fern trees that are over 10 cm tall and growing well, and one asparagus fern tree that is about 20 cm tall.

Select two rocks that are only about 10cm high.

Choose a number of horse and sheep accessories of varying sizes.

Appropriate amount of culture soil and moss.

Bonsai shape

There are several main methods for shaping asparagus fern:

"Three-legged tripod" bonsai

First, spread a thin layer of culture soil in a shallow white marble pot, and plant the tallest asparagus fern with curved branches and leaves on the right end of the pot. Pay attention to adjust the branches and leaves of the asparagus fern to the left.

Plant the second-highest asparagus fern not far to the left of the first asparagus fern, and appropriately close to the back edge of the pot.

Then plant the shortest asparagus fern at the junction of 1/2 and 2/3 of the pot length, and the curved branches and leaves should also face left to achieve coordinated and unified directions of the three trees.

Then look at it from a distance and up close, and adjust the position of the asparagus fern in the pot until it achieves a natural and beautiful look.

Tower Bonsai

Select 2-3 tall, upright and beautiful stems as the main peak, remove all growth points on the stems, set the plant height at 30-35 cm, and the remaining branches and new stems should not be higher than the main peak. When planted, the branches form a tower shape that decreases gradually.

As asparagus fern grows, each branch grows at a different rate, and the growth points are removed according to the thickness of the stems. If the stem is thicker than the trunk, the top should be removed. If it is thinner than the main trunk, you can let it grow. At the same time, the plant shape can be adjusted through shading or the plant's own phototropism.

Double cluster bonsai

Plant two asparagus ferns, one tall and one short, in a pot. The tall one should be about 30 cm and the short one should be about cm. During the growth period, you can shape them into tower-shaped asparagus ferns.

Natural bonsai

The natural growth shape of asparagus fern is the main focus, and basic methods such as removing growth points, shading with objects and utilizing its phototropism are still adopted to make the branches and leaves stretch out, giving people a natural beauty.

Bonsai beautification - adding stones and spreading moss

The branches of asparagus fern are thin and curved, which shows its softness. The irregular white marble basin is also curved on all sides. This scene is flexible but lacks masculinity. A good bonsai should be a combination of hardness and softness. Let’s see how to beautify it:

Place two tall rocks at the right rear position of the basin. The rocks are hard and have straight lines on the left and right sides, which shows strength. Cover the potting soil with a layer of moss to achieve an artistic greening effect. Spray the asparagus fern and moss with clean water and make the culture soil moist.

Done, the beautiful asparagus fern rock bonsai is completed!
