How to prevent cosmos from falling over

Why is it easy for cosmos to fall over?

Cosmos plants are prone to lodging, which is mainly due to two reasons. One is that the cosmos plant itself is more prone to lodging. The cosmos plant is tall, reaching 1-2 meters, which can be said to be very high. In addition, its branches and leaves are slender, and its flowering branches are numerous and tall. Sometimes it cannot withstand gravity and will fall over.

Another reason is external force. For example, under the influence of wind, cosmos can be easily blown down.

How to prevent cosmos from falling over

To prevent the cosmos from falling over, you can take action from three aspects.

Choose the time to sow. The sowing of Cosmos can be done in July or August. Because cosmos is a short-day plant, the seedlings sown in spring have lush branches and leaves, but fewer flowers. The plants generally grow very tall and are prone to lodging. However, the seedlings sown in the summer of July to August have short and neat plants and bloom well. Because the seeds are sown at this time, there is sufficient sunlight and high temperature, so the growth will be relatively rapid, the plant will not be very tall, and the flowering period will be in October, so it is not easy to fall over.

Dwarf plants. Dwarfing the cosmos plants is also the main method to prevent them from falling over. Firstly, because the cosmos plant itself is very tall, it will be better to dwarf it for growth; secondly, improper maintenance during the growth process will cause the plant to grow too tall, and it also needs to be dwarfed. During the growth period of Cosmos, reduce the application of fertilizer to prevent it from growing too tall. During the entire growing period, you can pinch the tops of the plants several times, which will make the plants shorter and less likely to fall over. Continuous pinching can also make the cosmos bloom more flowers.

Set up the support. When the cosmos plant grows to a certain height, setting up a support can provide support, especially in windy locations, to prevent it from falling over and breaking.
