Why can Forsythia bloom out of season?

However, Forsythia sometimes blooms out of season, usually in autumn or winter when Forsythia would not bloom. This is a typical phenomenon of flowers blooming twice, which is relatively rare.

Why can Forsythia bloom out of season?

The off-season flowering of Forsythia is related to the differentiation of Forsythia's flower buds in summer and autumn. If the growing conditions are relatively suitable and the temperature is maintained at around 14°C for a long time, the growth of Forsythia will be disordered and secondary flowering will occur, but this phenomenon lasts for a short time, usually only a dozen days. If the temperature drops quickly, the forsythia flowers will wither quickly.

In addition, the counter-flowering of Forsythia may be due to the influence of the micro-environment. If the microenvironment where Forsythia grows is in a sheltered place and the temperature is high, it is possible to induce Forsythia to bloom.

The harm of forsythia flowering out of season

Although forsythia blooms when it shouldn't, it creates a rather unique landscape, but it can still cause certain harm. Flowering out of season will consume the nutrients of Forsythia prematurely, which will affect the flowering and fruiting next year.
