What to do if bicolor jasmine does not bloom

When does it bloom?

Bicolor jasmine can bloom twice a year, the first time in early spring and the second time in October. Some can also bloom multiple times. But the main flowering period is in spring. Although it blooms sporadically at other times, the number is smaller.

Reasons for not blooming

Improper fertilization

Some flower lovers' bicolor jasmine only grows leaves but does not bloom. The main reason is that the fertilizer they choose is inappropriate. Too much nitrogen fertilizer leads to vigorous growth of branches and leaves, and lacks phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, so flower buds cannot differentiate. The growth of leaves consumes most of the nutrients, making it difficult for flower buds to differentiate.

Improper watering

The bicolor jasmine grows vigorously and is watered in a timely manner. Everything seems normal, but it is this normal watering method that causes it not to bloom. There is no problem with watering normally, but the branches and leaves grow very lushly, but there is no flower. This is because the leaves grow too long due to sufficient water, which will inevitably affect flowering.

prune

Bicolor jasmine is a woody plant that is resistant to pruning. If the flower buds are not pruned in time when they are differentiating, they will grow poorly and fall off prematurely, affecting flowering.

How to make it bloom continuously

Timely pruning

When the bicolor jasmine grows to a certain height, the top leaves and flower buds should be cut off in time to promote more side branches. If there are too many branches, there is no need to worry if the flower buds on one or two branches grow poorly.

Fertilize before flowering

Start fertilizing one month before flowering, focusing on applying phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and reducing nitrogen fertilizers to ensure adequate nutrient supply to the flower buds, which will enhance the plant's resistance and naturally increase the number of flowers.

Plenty of sunlight

If there is not enough fertilizer, sunlight will do. With sufficient sunlight, the plant can accumulate sufficient nutrients in its body, and even if insufficient fertilizer is applied, it can still sustain for a period of time. Get more sun, but not too much.
